Madrid day 3

Monday 22 July 2013

Susie went for walk to the Gran Via and bought some freshly baked bread on the way home. Later in the morning we set out on the metro to Banco de Espana and from there walked to the Museo Thyssen Bornemisza where we whiled away the afternoon from 12 noon to 4pm, taking in room after room of the amazing art collection there.  Afterwards we had a rather ordinary lunch in the Huertes district and then took the metro home for a siesta.

Later in the evening, when the heat had subsided, we strolled around the Malasaña district again, and eventually drifted back to the Mexican restaurant for a Margarita. Late in the evening we returned to El Maño for the delicious smoked bacalau, which we consumed with the best fino that we have had on the entire journey. Madrid has it all—fine art, fine food, fine wine, and great night life. What a shame we have to go home!
